European Maritime Day 2016

City of Turku will co-host the European Maritime Day Conference (EMD ) together with the European Commission and the Finnish Government between 18 and 19 May 2016. The event will be held in Logomo.

The theme in Turku will be Investing in competitive Blue Growth – smart and sustainable solutions. The theme was chosen to emphasize the great potential of all kinds of maritime blue growth in terms of the whole society. The challenges and solutions of our northern regions, as well as promoting the sustainable development of the maritime field, will be under special attention.

EMD is the most significant annual maritime conference in Europe. It will bring approximately a thousand experts and decision makers who work with maritime matters from all around Europe to Turku. Speakers at the opening include Commissioner Karmenu Vella, who is responsible for maritime affairs in Europe, and Minister of Transport and Communications Anne Berner from Finland.

The conference offers operators in the maritime field a possibility to present their operations in the Networking Village as well as in the matchmaking event organized by the Enterprise Europe Network. Conference guests will have a chance to find out about the maritime expertise of the Turku region by signing up for separately organized side visits (e.g. NaviGate Fair, Meyer Turku).
