Water Solutions Workshop at the Finnish Embassy in Vilnius attracted participants from municipal water utilities, Lithuanian municipalities, Finnish water infrastructure solutions providers and infrastructure engineering companies on March 3rd, 2016. This well attended event was put together by Team Finland in cooperation with John Nurminen Foundation. Foundation’s partner in this endeavor was Association of Lithuanian Water Supply Companies (LVTA).
This well-attended one-day, two part event was designed to achieve two goals set by its organizers. John Nurminen foundation aimed at identifying one or two Lithuanian municipal water utilities which deal with specific issues arising from industrial effluents. Team Finland’s goal was to open Lithuanian water infrastructure sector for procurement of Finnish water technology, services and knowhow. Both of these goals clearly complemented each other.
In the first part of the workshop, six Lithuanian water utilities presented issues resulting from industrial effluents. They were technically specific and indicated good potential for John Nurminen Foundation. In the second part, Finnish companies were introduced to Lithuanian government’s priorities in water infrastructure and had a chance to present their solutions for small town water infrastructure.
A good deal of business contacts were made and substantive conversations ensued. It is clear that significant potential exists in Lithuanian water sector for Finnish water technology providers. However, to succeed, Finnish companies should not drop the ball here. In fact, they should put together individual action plans and pursue their business opportunities further. Finpro and the rest of Team Finland stand ready to help.
